The physical distinction between Nephrite and Jadeite is a truly mind boggling even to this day. The Scientific difference between the two is easily available from a myriad of sources. Even more trouble for the Carvers, however on account of their toughness they can be carved into delicate carvings like the nose part or the ear part in a small statuette. The polishing also requires great attention. A well polished piece should have waxy-vitreous lustre. It is possible to find good size chunks with minimal or no fractures on the inside. As also uniformity of colour within a single chunk is also quiet common and so Artefacts and Statuettes are possible.
